This is a challenging role because you will need to apply what you learn from various sources to determine how you want to craft your historical persona. You need a very solid understanding of events from 1966 - 1968---particularly regarding the civil rights movement and the Vietnam War protests and the rise of the counter culture. These are the events which were turning the "silent majority' away from the Democratic Party and toward the Republican Party.
He's going to represent the hippie movement/counter culture that was developing out in San Francisco during this era. 1967 was the summer of love and that's critical to your project. Ms. G has the DVD of the PBS special. You can check it out from her.
